The documentary “The Akram Tree” is a journey in anglo-bengali dancer and choreographer Akram Khan personal and professional world. “My intelligence is in my body” says Akram, a body made by sharp reality remarks, by legends, and by ceaseless work here shown by “Gnosis”, a pièce created with seven other artists purposely tracked down in different parts of the world. From India, Japan, Pakistan, England, Egypt, Iraq and Bangladesh traditions and experimentations act out to create a work that stretches from kathak classical dance to contemporary dance. The documentary captures the story of this peculiar human and artistic adventure, often going beyond the narrative in favor of a visionary insight that is influenced by the place it was filmed in: the futuristic and contradictory city of Abu Dhabi, with its desert and metaphysical surroundings.
